China’s Land Grab in America: Congress Moves to Block CCP From Buying U.S. Farmland and Homes

In a bold move to protect America’s sovereignty, House Republicans have introduced new legislation aimed at blocking the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliates from acquiring U.S. farmland and residential property. The “Protecting Our Farms and Homes from China Act,” spearheaded by Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), is a direct response to Beijing’s increasing ownership of critical American assets—and a warning call to all Americans.

“Prized American land is not for sale to our enemies,” Miller declared in a statement, underscoring growing bipartisan concern about China's unchecked expansion into America’s real estate and agricultural sectors.

The bill mirrors a Senate version introduced by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and would prohibit CCP-affiliated individuals and entities from purchasing or leasing any U.S. farmland or residential properties. It also mandates divestment of any such land already acquired and imposes steep civil and criminal penalties for violations—including asset forfeiture and fines up to $1,000 per day.

National Security at Stake

The urgency stems from alarming data: Chinese entities now own an estimated 265,000 acres of American farmland, according to the USDA. This rapid accumulation has triggered national security alarms, with critics warning that foreign control over food production and housing supply could be weaponized.

"The Chinese Communist Party is the greatest threat to our national security," said Rep. Miller. "Their aggressive push to buy up our farmland and homes is a direct attack on our sovereignty. It’s long past time we take back control."

President Donald Trump’s administration has fully backed the initiative. As part of his newly launched “National Farm Security Action Plan,” the administration is rallying efforts to counter what Trump calls “foreign exploitation” of U.S. soil. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins is working closely with lawmakers to monitor foreign ownership and enforce new restrictions.

Beyond Farmland: Targeting Strategic Real Estate

The legislation doesn’t stop at agricultural land. It would also block purchases of residential real estate—including houses, condos, and land zoned for housing—by CCP-linked individuals or corporations for at least two years. The president would have the power to extend the ban every two years.

“This is about national defense, food security, and economic independence,” said Sen. Hawley. “We should never let our nation’s greatest adversary have access to our vital resources.”

A Coordinated Effort

To enforce the bill, new compliance offices would be established within the Departments of Agriculture and Commerce. The Attorney General would be empowered to seize assets and pursue legal actions to prevent ongoing violations. Any land acquired illegally would be auctioned publicly.

Additionally, the bill nullifies non-compete agreements involving foreign agricultural employers and imposes civil fines of $100 per acre per day for illegal holdings.

Trump’s broader plan involves coordinating federal, state, and private-sector efforts to ensure food production and strategic real estate remain in American hands. It echoes past national security efforts to curb foreign influence in infrastructure, energy, and telecommunications.

Wake-Up Call for Americans

China’s tactics are no accident. The CCP is using legal loopholes, shell corporations, and joint ventures to gradually tighten its grip on American land—especially near critical military bases and infrastructure hubs. Experts warn that if unchecked, these acquisitions could become leverage in future geopolitical standoffs.

Lawmakers like Miller and Hawley are sounding the alarm—and taking action.

“This is not about xenophobia. This is about security, sovereignty, and survival,” Miller emphasized.

A Nation Defends Itself

With support from over a dozen Republican co-sponsors, the bill is expected to gain traction in the House. Combined with Trump’s aggressive executive strategy, Washington is sending a clear message: America is not for sale.

As global tensions rise and economic warfare intensifies, protecting America’s farmland and housing is no longer just a domestic issue—it’s a front in the battle for national survival.
